| Description: |
Overall Design Tobermory Harbour needs five main docks constructed, with decking 8 feet wide and 20 feet long. Docks are to be constructed using 2 steel floats, with steel cross bracing for the frame and wooden decking. Tubular floats are to be 20’ long, 24” in diameter, constructed using 0.188” (3/16”) steel. Decking must be constructed using 2” x 6” pressure treated deck and side bumper rails to match the existing dock. Mooring posts must extend up through the decking, inset 5’ from either end of the dock and spaced 10’ apart. Connecting Flanges: Each new section of dock constructed must be guaranteed to connect to the existing docks, such that the decking sits at the same height above the water and the connecting flanges line up. For connections, flanges are attached to the ends of each of the tubes. The distance from male flange to male flange is 5’7”. Male flanges are 1” thick steel, 5” tall vertically (top to bottom) and 6” long (sticking out horizontally). Female flanges must be designed accordingly. The top of each flange to the top of deck is 17.5”. Chain Tensioning: There must be brackets welded into the frame at both ends allowing the tensioning of anchor chains to be adjusted regularly without dismantling dock sections. Designs need to emphasize ease of adjustment.
